The Town of Sylva is served by two elementary schools: Fairview School and Scotts Creek School.  The schools grade levels run from kindergarten to eighth grade.

Smoky Mountain High School is located in the Town of Sylva and includes grade levels nine though twelve.

Southwestern Community College

Southwestern Community College (SCC) is a public two-year college that was established in 1964. It offers a variety of academic programs, including associate degrees, certificates, and diplomas, in fields such as healthcare, business, engineering, arts and sciences, and public service. Western Carolina University

Western Carolina University (WCU) is a public university located in Cullowhee, North Carolina, USA, just a few miles from the town of Sylva.
