Our announcements page is a location to share regular updates or notifications with the community to keep residents informed about important news, events, initiatives, and developments within the Town of Sylva. These announcements serve as a means of communication between the town and its residents, fostering transparency, engagement, and community involvement. They may include information about upcoming community events, infrastructure projects, policy changes, public meetings, local business initiatives, environmental initiatives, and more.

Chief of Police Vacancy

The Town of Sylva is seeking applications for the position of Chief of Police. 

**Update: Extension–All completed applications are due no later than February 20, 2026, 12:00 p.m.**

All completed application packets must be submitted to Amanda Murajda, [email protected] or in person at Town Hall, 83 Allen Street, Sylva, NC no later than February 6, 2026, 12:00 p.m. to be considered during the first round of reviews. See below for links to vacancy information and application materials.

  • A completed application packet includes letter of interest, resume, application and supplemental questionnaire.  Incomplete packets will not be accepted.
  • The hiring team will invite successful finalists to participate in an interview panel and scenario evaluation the week of March 2-6, 2026. Candidates are encouraged to reserve these dates for interviews should they be invited to participate.
  • Selected candidate is expected to begin employment no later than April 15, 2026.

Audit RFP 2026

RFP Submission for Auditing Services

Please find a link below to the Request for Proposal for auditing services, along with a proposed timetable for the Town of Sylva.

The proposal includes onsite fieldwork. A State Single Audit is needed due to SCIF funding, with approximately $150,000 grant funding remaining to be expended. The Town of Sylva anticipates FEMA funding for the Scott’s Creek Slope Stabilization Capital Project.

The Town of Sylva welcomes your notice of intent to submit an RFP by January 22, 2026. With a submittal RFP due date of February 13, 2026 at 4 p.m.
