PLEASE READ ALL GUIDELINES BEFORE TURNING IN YOUR APPLICATION.  
~ SOME RULES HAVE CHANGED ~

Thank you for your application and participation in this year’s Christmas Parade! 

The parade is on Sunday, December 1, 2024, and will start from the Sylva Fire Department at 3:00 p.m. 
The lineup will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Every entry will be required to be decorated in holiday fashion. We highly recommend decorating according to this year’s theme: Memories of Christmas Past, with McGuire Dentistry as Grand Marshal Family.

 A prize will be awarded this year based on the theme. Floats will be judged during the parade. 

Parade Entry Requirements/Rules:

    • No full-size tractor trailers more than 35’ in length
    • Groups may have NO MORE than 5 vehicles
    • Any ATVs must be street legal and include tag and insurance.
    • All traffic laws must be followed including motorcyclists wearing proper helmets.  
    • Group entries (more than one vehicle/person) need to arrive in the check-in together or otherwise may not be in the parade together.  Please plan your meeting location ahead of time.
    • No sirens or loud horns
    • No animals
    • No open flames
    • DO NOT throw candy – Please hand to the spectators for safety
    • Stay close to the group in front of you to prevent gaps
    • No-one dressed as Santa Claus – Anyone dressed as Santa Claus will be asked to remove the costume. Santa will ride in the last float. If you have questions regarding the “Santa” float, please contact the Main Street Sylva Association.

Parade Route: All vehicles/floats that are in the parade will need to enter the parade line up by coming down Hospital Road to Chipper Curve Road.  (Hospital Road runs down behind the EMS station.) If you are coming from Skyland Drive at McDonalds, you will need to turn right on Scotts Creek Road and take a left at Hospital Road and then turn left onto Skyland Drive.  If you are dropping people off to be in the parade you will need to enter on Harold Street.  Harold Street is located beside Appalachian Funeral Home. We will be lining up on Chipper Curve Road. PLEASE FOLLOW THE SIGNS AND DIRECTIONS OF THE STAFF.

Check-In/Unload Instructions:  NEW FOR 2024—PLEASE READ

Entries that are a group of individuals are required to assemble the entire group prior to check-in time and report to the check-in area as one complete, entire group.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

Group entries (more than one vehicle/person) need to arrive in the check-in together or otherwise may not be in the parade together.

Parking & Check In:

Please carpool as much as possible since space is limited. Walkers and children’s groups should drop off children on Harold Street before it closes at 2:30 pm. Vehicles dropping off must turn RIGHT on Chipper Curve from Harold Street to exit. One lane of traffic along Chipper Curve will remain open.   Carpool Meeting Location Recommendations: SavMor Parking Lot, Food Lion Parking Lot, Appalachian Funeral Services Parking Lot.  Please drop off children as quickly and safely as possible. No vehicles shall be left unattended.

    • No parking on Harold Street.
    • No one will be able to enter the parade at the Fire Department.  This includes people who are walking and being dropped off. 
    • Fill up your car with gas before lining up.
    • Be prepared to start moving at 2:50 and listen for the fire department siren to start.

PARADE END:

The Parade Ends at MARK WATSON PARK. Floats and vehicles end at Mark Watson Park. Please make sure no one gets off the float before then. Do not drop anyone off at the fountain below the Historic Courthouse/ Public Library Complex – KEEP MOVING. Walkers will need to use your own discretion. Please make sure whoever is picking you up is aware of where you will be waiting. All group members should be aware of drop-off and pick-up points. Vehicles should be parked at Bridge Park or Mark Watson to pick up the walkers and those riding on a float.

If you do not need to drop off at Mark Watson, you can proceed past the park towards Dillsboro/441 or Make a Right Hand Turn on Dillsboro Road heading toward Grindstaff Cove Road/74.

Applications and parade fee must be turned in to the Town of Sylva by November 27, 2024. Applications will not be accepted during line up the day of the parade. Note: Money will NOT be refunded in the event of inclement weather.
